How many people know about your best time for travelling? Do they know your interests? Or do they just listen to your stories with envy?
May is the best month to travel to the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains for me. I love watching different shades of green on the mountain slopes.
I would highlight a few advantages of visiting the mountains in May:
- Amazing landscapes and picturesque views.
- There are fewer people in the mountains in May.
- Shorter queues to interesting places.
- You can take photos of local tourist spots without crowds.
- I have a Birthday in May, and we celebrated our wedding in May.
1. Amazing landscapes and picturesque views
Trees with old leaves and new, bright green crowns are mixed together and create an awesome background in photos.
I love such mountain landscapes!
It’s not necessary to climb the mountains for amazing pictures. However, you have the possibility to reach the top. You just need much more time for this activity.
In July and August, there are a lot of berries and mushrooms in the forests of the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains: blueberries, wild strawberries, and blackberries taste delicious.
You can admire absolutely different colors of trees in the fall there.
But I love visiting the mountains in May.

Wherever you are, just stop today and notice the colors of the nearby trees: on the street, in the garden, in the park, in the city. And write about it in the comments.
2. There are fewer people in the mountains in May
Fewer people are the reason for cheaper overnight rentals.
It’s easier to book a hotel in the place you like.
Actually, planning a trip in May is faster.
Additionally, my productivity is better after a trip.
3. Shorter queues to interesting places
I notice that there are a lot of interesting tourist spots about Ukrainian history and culture in the Carpathian Mountains as well.
School buses and people by car come to see them.
It’s simple to plan a cultural journey in May or some slow travel.
I like visiting regional small museums with my husband.
4. You can take photos of local tourist spots without crowds
I like photos from May travel – suspension bridge over a mountain river, waterfall, even at a small local train station.
I don’t worry about fast cadr before people come.
There are no crowds in that period of time.
It removes some of the emotional noise and helps me feel the famous tourist place better.
I know it for sure, I have enough time to be in that place, to look around, to remember it, and to find inspiration.
5. My Birthday is in May, and we celebrate our wedding anniversaries in May with my husband
I was born in May, and I love spring!
We love to celebrate our wedding anniversaries every year in May!
Actually, we were lucky with my husband to celebrate our family holidays together in May this year by travelling!
The war in Ukraine is still actively ongoing. And we use every his vacations to spend this time together.
Final thoughts
I consider the best month to travel to be the one when you need a rest.
Everyone has a personal list of criteria to choose the right time for travelling like budget, a concrete event (festival or blooming trees or fields), low prices for tickets to museums, beautiful landscapes, and many others.
I believe that asking questions is the best approach to clarify for yourself what the best time to travel is.
What do I want to see ? Would it be comfortable for me to travel in such weather?
What kind of rest do I need right now: active or cultural?
That clarity removes a lot of overthinking.
And praise yourself for any journey.
